2014 Lotus Exige V6 Cup R Review

Personally, I like Lotuses, I like their styling, and I like the brand as a whole. But what I don't get is how they managed to switch from Lamborghini-level supercars to small, fun, sports cars that compete with cheap Porsches and even Fords. That's right: this car competes with cars like the Porsche Cayman R and the Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca. But it might not seem like the Lotus brand isn't as high-up on the food chain anymore, they haven't lost their sense of fun. The new Exige V6 Cup is pretty much exactly what it sounds like. It has a powerful 366 hp, 3.5 liter supercharges V6 that rockets the car to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds, which sounds conservative. But pure power isn't the only thing the Exige is about: it is also extremely focused on handling and track use. This car goes around corners like nothing else, and it is almost as good as an Ariel Atom. But the V6 Cup R also has been lightened, and has a full FIA-spec roll-cage, a 6-point driver's harness, and it is 308 lbs lighter that the standard Exige S. But my favorite thing about Lotus in general is how similar their street-legal cars are so similar to their F1 racing cars. To be honest, the F1 cars make more power, handle better, and are lighter, but if you think bout it, their street cars are also super-light, pretty powerful, and still handle better than most other cars on the market.
