Comparison: 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG vs. 2014 BMW M5

These two Autobahn kings recently received facelifts for 2014 and they look amazing. The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class got the best mid-sized luxury sedan interior rating and the BMW 5 Series: best 0-60 time. But which company has done a better job making it faster? That's what we're going to find out.

2. Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG

The E63 AMG has been in the AMG pool for a while now and is now one of the fastest cars on the planet, thanks to its hand-built, AMG 5.5 liter twin-turbo V8 that makes an astonishing 550 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. Those incredible numbers kick the car to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds, which I find mind-blowing. The interior is very upscale, with stitched Designo leather and carbon-fiber replacing the standard E-Class piano black veneer, and the okay COMAND navigation system. But the M5 is a little more interesting and refined, so it wins this comparison.

1. BMW M5

The BMW M5 is one of the biggest fast cars on the face of the Earth but is still very understated, thanks to its minimal exterior badging (compared to the E63) and some amazing numbers. 560 hp comes from the hand-built ///M twin-turbo 4.4 liter V8 that forces this big, heavy cruiser to 60 in 3.8 seconds, only a tenth slower than the E63. The interior is more curvy than the E63's and is more simple, thanks to black leather and aluminum trim alongside BMW's revolutionary iDrive control system. The driving dynamics, as the motto suggests, are very, very good.
